It is difficult to quantify the importance of personal style. After all, what we have to offer on the inside is what really matters, isn’t that what has been ingrained in our heads since childhood? Well yes….what is on the inside; our unique personality traits, temperaments, humor styles, dreams and special quirks are clearly the defining factors in who we are. However, concerning ourselves with how we present our full package (internal and external) to the world should not make us vain or narcissistic.
Narcissists consider themselves to be different or unique as well as superior to or better than others, so much so that they are destructive to themselves and others. Maybe you know some people who are dangerously close to crossing this line, posting one too many selfies on a daily basis….nothing wrong with selfies, but I think there should be a limit, just saying! Anyhow, this is not what I am suggesting. I am simply suggesting taking some time to assess how our unique sense of style affects our self-esteem.
Putting some thought into your look allows you to be more present in your body, and this sense of presence fuels better overall self-care. The better we look, the better we feel, and the more confidence we will have in our daily activities. You have the power of choice each morning. Yes, to be considered socially acceptable you must cover at least a percentage of your body, but what you choose can affect not only how you are perceived by others but how you come to view yourself.
So how does one go about determining his/her fashion personality? Well you could start by taking a quiz on-line to find out what you gravitate towards the most, I mean we all do it right?! I would say my personal style is somewhere between a romantic and a trend-setter. It often varies depending on the season, the event, or my mood, but that is what is great about fashion. Nothing is set in stone; you have a fresh canvas to design each day! Once you have a general idea of what your style goal is you can begin to shop with purpose, learn how to dress for your body type, determine what color palette best suits you, and learn how re-energize your current wardrobe.
I have spent over ten years working in the fashion world, and I am now excited to be able to inspire others to develop unique styles of their own. Please join me on Monday October 13th from 7:00-8:30pm for the final workshop in the Get Happy! series. Sessions are now available for only $30 each! Click here to register now!
